Diverse media is a powerful tool that shapes and changes lives. It provides the platform to show what is and is not possible and African Creatives must have the opportunity to tell their own stories. In this way, people can better understand Africa, its cultures and its people, including their struggles and what is truly necessary to better shape it and change it.

PortableVoices Creatives Fund, is a dedicated effort by PortableVoices to continue supporting creatives telling African stories and create new equitable job opportunities for Freelance African Content Creators, through conssensional funding of new projects. PortableVoices is committing to invest Ksh. 10 Million over the next 5 years to fund new audio, TV and Film projects by African content creators through micro grants of up to Ksh. 250,000.

Who is PortableVoices Creatives Fund For?

To be considered for funding from The Creatives Fund by PortableVoices, you will be asked to let us know which of the following statements apply to you.

  • I am a self-employed theatre worker or freelancer and am registered.
  • I am in need of urgent financial assistance due to the Covid-19 pandemic or my background.
  • I am a Kenyan resident and have a Kenyan bank account.
  • I earn the majority of my income through professional creative work based in or produced from Kenya.
  • I have won a contest organized by The Creatives Fund or its partners.

You will be asked to provide one item of proof for any one of the above eligibility requirements. This can include any of the following and must include your name:

  • Picture of your passport or National ID
  • Proof of address – e.g. utility bill
  • Bank and MPESA six month statement
  • Project proposal

Types of work which are eligible (this is not an exhaustive list)

  •  Any TV or Film work
  • Podcasts
  • Web series
  • Short films
  • Documentaries
  •  Any work in international venues produced from Kenya.
  •  If your work has been in Education, Outreach and/or Participation, it must have been conducted through a professional production company or organization and be delivered to targeted groups. Independent teaching of art forms to private individuals or groups is not currently eligible
