PortableVoices Studios is proud to announce the upcoming release of its original neo-noir drama series, Desire, with the pilot episode set to Premiere in October.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Nairobi, Desire is a gritty coming-of-age thriller that follows Malik “Malo” Kamau, a talented young street photographer from Riverbank Estate who earns a scholarship to an elite creative academy. But beneath the promise of reinvention lies a past steeped in trauma, secrets, and unfinished business.
“We wanted to tell a story that reflects the ambition and contradictions of urban youth culture,” said series creator Allan Niongira. “Desire is about dreams that burn too hot and choices that cut too deep.”
Inspired by the kinetic energy of Top Boy and the emotional depth of Euphoria, the series blends high-stakes drama with psychological realism. Each episode will explore identity, loyalty, and the blurred line between ambition and survival—through the lens of Nairobi’s underground and elite creative circles.
The pilot episode, will premiere digitally at Theatres new you and via select platforms, with a live screening event planned for Nairobi.
